William Ralph Gibson's Obituary
William R. Gibson, II, (Bill) also known affectionately as "mr. honey do", age 69, passed away peacefully March 4, 2013, with his family by his side at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. after fighting a very honorable and courageous battle against lung cancer.
Bill was born on April 13th, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, New York, son of the late William and Irma Pyers Gibson. While attending Arlington High School, he met and later married the love of his life, Libby Lackman.
After high school, Bill worked for Jack Lucas construction for a short time before enlisting in the US Navy. He spent most of his four year tour aboard the USS Georgetown stationed out of Norfolk, VA. He then returned to Poughkeepsie after being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1966, and worked for DeLaval Separator Company. In 1968, Bill began his 25 year career in computer sales and management with NCR Corp. During the time he was employed by NCR, he and Libby lived in the Poughkeepsie area; Centerville, OH; and Irmo, SC. After retiring from NCR in 1994, they moved to Lewes, DE, and began his "retirement" of 19 years with his own general contracting business called "honey do".
Over the years Bill was a member of the Sea Scouts, a Boy Scout leader, a Rehoboth Beach member and president of Kiwanis, and most recently served as a HOA board member in Lewes, DE. For many years he enjoyed flying his remote controlled air planes as a member of the Lewes RC Club.
Bill was very honorable, courageous, and loving; the ultimate family man. He lived his life to the fullest each day, and had a family that adored him greatly. He will be sorely missed by not only his family but also by anyone that came in contact with him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, William R. Gibson, III; Grandson, Baby Harp; and his parents-in-law, Rocky and Lorraine Lackman at Rehoboth Beach, DE
Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Libby Lackman Gibson; a son Daniel and wife Jessica Gibson of Frederick, MD; two daughters, Lori and husband Sean O'Day of Herdon, VA and Katie and husband Jonathan Harp of Milton, DE; grandchildren, Jillian, Bryce, Ronan, Shennan, Megan, Morgan and Dylan; a brother Kevin and his wife Claire Gibson and their children Aislinn and Siobhan of Chelsea, NY; and his loving pets a Lab named Bob and cats named, Shadow, Baby and Little Bit.
