William Walter Beyer's Obituary
Dr. William (Bill) Walter Beyer, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Fort Pierce, FL, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2018. He was where he wanted to be - in his room, overlooking the spectacular Rehoboth Bay and surrounded by family, especially Kathleen, his wife of 68 years, the love of his life.
Bill was born on a rural farm in Idaho but shortly moved to Wisconsin. He was only twenty when he met and married his soul mate, Kathleen (Kay) Kingston. 1st Lieutenant Beyer proudly served his country in Korea, even missing the birth of his second child by eight months. When he did return, he obtained a Ph. D. in Bio Chemistry and Food Science and began a twenty year career in the Midwest in the Refrigerated Foods Division of The Pillsbury Company. He then moved to New Jersey and began his second career with the Mars Candy Company, rising to become VP of Research and Development. At 55, he left corporate life behind, became a private pilot and began his third career - spending his time with Kathleen and the family and flying between New Jersey, South Carolina, Florida, and Cancun, Mexico.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by two children: a daughter, Beth Ann (Giobbie) and a son, David William, both of New Jersey. He was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Kathryn (Dorsey) in 2006.
His eight grandchildren are already missing his chocolate chip walnut brownies and frozen orange juice concoction. He also leaves behind fourteen great grandchildren, plus another one due in October.
Bill was a gentle man, very unpretentious. He was easy to please and always content in his situation, whether in plenty or in want. But he was happiest simply spending the time with his beloved wife, Kathleen. She loved him very much; he loved her even more.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Delaware Hospice. Along with his top notch home care nursing team, they enabled Bill and Kay to be together, holding hands, until the very end.
A small memorial will be planned for later in the spring.
Please sign Bill's online guestbook located on this site.
