Amy J. Reed Parker
I can remember as a little kid going in the Lewes Dairy in Rehoboth Beach & seeing Walter working there in his family’s business. He was a young man & me a kid- I was intrigued by his size, he seemed huge(tall)to me. He was always nice, polite, & helpful.
Over the years Walter had his hand on the pause of all things Rehoboth Beach. And wrote many a Letter to the Editor. Sometimes you agreed, sometimes you didn’t. He was a charmer to the older women around town, they all loved him. He always took time to talk to them, & others. A lost art in today’s busy world.
Our family & their family were friends- I can see his parents Weldon, Betty, & siblings Hank, & Suzie now. Later in life he married a friend of mine Joan Walker, Andrew’s mother. They shared an unorthodox love, but it worked for them, & gave us Andrew!
I can remember Joan praising Walter to me, & his special care & concern for her when she was terminal.
Even as a kid & later in life Walter still looked the same, & had that boyish grin of his & ornery gleam in his eye.
Like with most obituaries, I learned some things about him in his.
I respected Walter’s uniqueness & genuine love of Rehoboth Beach & its people. Folks like him matter, giving in many unselfish ways to the community.
RIP Walter.
Rehoboth Beacheans will remember you!
