Thomas Francis Furst's Obituary
Thomas “Tom” Francis Furst, a greatly loved Dad, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Poppy, and Friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Lewes, DE, on November 5, 2024. Born on August 31, 1948, in Astoria, New York, to the late Beatrice and Fred Furst, Tom lived a vibrant life filled with dedication to his loved ones and passions.Graduating from John Glenn High School in 1966 and later earning an MBA from Hofstra University, Tom exemplified hard work and determination. He proudly served for 15 years in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Major. His professional journey included a successful tenure as the Vice President of commercial banking, followed by his entrepreneurial spirit driving him to run his own company, TASS.
Tom was the rock to his family, a master of sarcasm, a warrior with fierce convictions and a gentleman with great taste. Golf was his sport, and a source of great times spent with family and friends. His scotch and cigar nights were legendary among friends, and his skills as the party bartender were well-known. Tom loved the Eagles, Don Henley, and Joe Walsh on the stereo and Fox News on TV. Tom loved a great meal and drinks with his friends and family. He was a true dog whisperer and will be greeted with open paws in heaven by Inky, Kelly, and his Layla girl.
Tom’s undying love for Mary, the only woman he ever wanted or needed, was a testimony to what a great husband looks like. His boys, Chris and J.P., also known as his greatest achievements, are the real men, great husbands, and fathers he was bursting with pride to see. Only his grandchildren Peyton, Riley, Brendan, and Tommy could compete for heart space. He took great pleasure in watching his sons and grandchildren excel at lacrosse, always cheering them on with heartwarming encouragement.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary. His two sons: Christopher Furst and wife Megan, of Chatham, NJ, and J.P Furst and wife Jaime of Cranford, NJ; and four grandchildren: Peyton, Riley, Brendan, and Tommy Furst.
