Born in San Francisco, California, on July 13, 1945, to the late Robert and Hazel Coman (Jennings), Susan lived a full and vibrant life marked by compassion, curiosity, and a remarkable capacity for love.
A proud graduate of George Washington University in 1965, Susan cultivated a passion for knowledge that would define her professional journey as a beloved teacher. Her career took her from the warm classrooms of Jane S. Park School in Honolulu, Hawaii, to the bustling halls of East Hampton High School in Connecticut, and finally to Mercy High School in Middletown, Connecticut, where she inspired countless students to pursue their dreams and ignite their intellectual passions.
Susan was the beloved wife of Michael W. Moore, whom she married in Washington D.C. in 1967.She is survived by her son, Geoffrey Coman Moore, and his wife Suzana; her daughters, Stephanie Metivier and her husband George, and Jessica Stanco and her husband Daniel; her grandchildren, Zachary, Nathaniel, Sophia, Sydney, Sylvie, Ava, Mia, and Chase; and her sister-in-law, Dodee Black, and her husband Steve. Susan's zest for life extended to her many interests. Her participation in several book clubs fed her insatiable appetite for reading, while her love for Shakespeare saw her as a frequent patron of performances at the Stratford Theatre in Connecticut. She adored watching plays and movies, cherished her collection of roosters and ginger jars, and never turned down a good game of trivia or an opportunity to delve into history.
Susan lived a life shaped by exploration, family, and a deep connection to the world around her. As the daughter of a United States Navy commodore, Susan spent her formative years traveling the globe, calling places such as Trinidad, San Francisco, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C., home. From ages 11 to 13, she attended the Royal Naval School for Girls in Surrey, England, while her parents continued their travels. Her mother, Hazel, was of Australian descent, and Susan cherished her frequent visits to Australia to stay connected with extended family. This spirit of travel remained with her throughout her life. In later years, she joyfully continued the tradition by visiting her son Geoffrey, a naval officer himself, during his posting in Japan. Susan found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially during golf vacations at Pawleys Island, South Carolina, with Michael. While he enjoyed the golf course, she loved relaxing on the lanai, enjoying the sun and correcting school papers.
