I'm sorry I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Shirley too many times but every time I did I left with the same feeling. Her down to earth comfortable way about her made me feel as if I was her best friend. That is a unique quality that I wish everyone had. I know she made a lasting impression on my uncle since every time we drove through Delaware he just had to mention Shirley lived there and he would clap to celebrate the occasion. She will be missed.
Shirl loved her family dearly. Shirl loved to take pictures. It was hard to pick one memory but this one is unique. Shirl, Leslie, our mother, and myself were on base in Norfolk, Va. We were walking down memory lane about when our father was stationed there. Shirl started taking pictures of our dad's old office etc. We got in the car ready to head out to the airport. I noticed a zodiac boat with a mounted machine gun headed up the channel parallel to us. Next thing I know 2 hummers have us blocked in. They were very understanding after we explained what Shirl was taking pictures of. They explained after 9/11 no pictures on military bases. Thankfully they just deleted the base pictures not all the pictures from our weekend trip!
I remember Shirley for her warmth, good nature, and unwavering support. From our first meeting Shirley made us feel like family. She made people feel comfortable and cared for, always ready to lend a hand. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Aunt Shirley is going to be missed sovery much. I enjoyed our calls that were always full of laughter. She is going to be missed immensely by my mom, her favorite sister (Leslie, she was the favorite♥️). I know they both enjoyed their daily calls that I can guarantee were mischievous and hilarious and probably wouldn't have been understood by anyone but them. They had some fun adventures and we are lucky they never ended up in cuffs when they were on their trips to Virginia!!! I hope you have your zip lock with you!!! We love you and will miss you Aunt Shirl but we will see you again♥️ Make sure you pop in on mom♥️♥️ Love you always!! Although a small woods separated us as neighbors it was always a joy to hear Doug and Shirley’s kids and grandkids playing basketball or splashing in the pool …. always sound like a good time. Shirley had a wonderful smile and a kind heart. We had many smiles and hand waves in passing over the many years. Rest in peace Shirley, you will be missed
