Robert H. Burke, age 85, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE. Born on February 25, 1939, in Englewood, NJ, to his late parents, August and Helen Burke, Bob rose from humble beginnings to achieve remarkable accomplishments.
Bob was the first in his family to attend college, earning his degree from St. Peter’s University in 1960. Following his graduation, Bob served in the U.S. Army and went on to become the first Marketing Manager for what was then known as Master Charge. He later enjoyed a distinguished twenty-six-year career in banking, retiring as Chairman of Bank of New York - Delaware.
In 1964, Bob married Cathi (Smyth), who was his devoted partner for fifty-eight years until her passing in 2022. Together, they raised two children, Michael and Christine, and were blessed with six grandchildren. Just six months before his passing, Bob welcomed his first great-grandchild, a joyous addition to the family. Known affectionately as Pop Pop, Bob will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his beloved wife Cathi (Smyth) and his brother Ed. He is survived by his son Michael (Maureen) and their children Connor, Colleen, Emmet, and Ian; his daughter Christine Kennedy (Frank) and their children Michael (Jennifer) and Molly; as well as his great-grandson, Wesley Robert, who was named in Bob’s honor.
