Our deepest condolences to Judy and the entire Raffaelli family on Dick's passing.
He was the older brother that I never had, my comrade in Marine Dress Blues and my dearest friend. We lost contact with each other for about 42 years, until about 10 years ago. I searched high and low for Dick, not finding him, and was always concerned about hearing something I did not want to hear. But then...one evening I called a number down south that I found. A gruff voice answered and I asked for Dick. He said "Who's this?" I asked him a few questions about NJ and Upsala and the Corps, then told him who it was. He yelled back to Judy "...it's Chris...Stohldrier". We talked for about 3 hours that night, and the years disappeared. Kept in touch, and reunited in '08 with another buddy from NJ and went to the new Marine Corps Museum. Great times.
I worried greatly about him through his latest battles. and am still devastated after Judy's call on Tuesday. Now the words are more difficult. I can only thank God for letting us reconnect over the last 10 years. I will miss you, my dear old friend.
"and when he gets to Heaven, to St. Peter he will tell...another Marine reporting for duty, Sir..I've served my time in h*ll."
Semper Fidelis
