Peter (Pete) Joseph Popovich's Obituary
Peter (Pete) Joseph Popovich, age 91, of Lewes, DE passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at home. He was born Monday, August 25, 1924 in Baltimore, MD, to Daniel and Margaret (Daniels) Popovich.
Pete was a graduate of Conrad High School class of 1941. He proudly served as a combat veteran in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the 27th Fighter Bomber Group. Immediately following WWII he was a founding member of the Delaware Air Guard. On November 25, 1950 he married the love of his life, Mary Toomey at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine.
Pete started out his career in TV repair at Justice Brothers in Newport, DE, but ultimately made a career as a Marketing Manager in the telecommunications world with the local phone companies and AT&T. Among his favorite hobbies were story-telling, golf, and on occasion flying. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Pete is predeceased by his sister, Anne Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Popovich; his two sons: David (Cindy) of Lewes, DE and Tom (Lynne) of Wilmington, DE; his daughter, Sue Goodrich (Burt) of Strasburg, PA; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Steve Popovich, of San Jose, CA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Pete's name be made to the the charity of your choice or to St. Edmond Catholic Church,409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
