Michael V. Layton's Obituary
Michael Varney Layton, age 87, of Bridgeville, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Born on November 19, 1938, in Milford, Delaware, Michael was the son of the late Edwin Laws Layton and Elizabeth Draper Varney Layton, both of Bridgeville. He attended Bridgeville High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. During his military service, he worked as an avionics technician, a role that reflected his strong work ethic and technical skill.
Following his service, Michael devoted many years to H.C. Layton & Son, where he worked as a clerk and later became the owner. He was well known in the community for his dedication to the hardware store, a place where he spent countless hours and built lasting relationships. In his younger years, Michael also enjoyed sailing, a pastime that reflected his love for hands-on work and the outdoors.
On November 13, 1965, Michael married Linda Lou White, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
Michael is survived by his wife, Linda White Layton of Bridgeville, DE; his daughters, Mary Gilbert Layton of Bridgeville, DE, and Anne Layton Villalobos and her husband Osiel Villalobos of Milford, DE; his grandchildren, Aiden Michael Villalobos of Milford, DE, and Avery Alma Villalobos of Philadelphia, PA; his brothers, Garrett Sipple Layton and his wife Liz of Salisbury, MD, and William HC Layton and his wife Daryl of Philadelphia, PA.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Layton Messina of Rehoboth, DE.
