Michael Edward Futty's Obituary
Michael Edward Futty, age 52, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wilmington, DE on August 3, 1962, son of Curtis S. Futty (and his wife Lynn).
Mr. Futty graduated from Delcastle Technical High School in 1980. After his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1980 to1984. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Futty embarked on a banking career with Bank of America, where he retired as Vice President.
Mr. Futty was a charitable man and enjoyed volunteering. He devoted much of his time raising funds for The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware. He was a mentor for the athletes involved in Special Olympics, a role in which he was very proud. Mr. Futty was a member and past President of Toast Masters International. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 8 in Georgetown, DE, as he took great pride in having served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Futty was skilled in precision target practice and enjoyed being a member of J.D. Defense. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed spending his Saturday's playing a round of golf with his father. Above all else, Mr. Futty's happiest moments were spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a gentle soul with a brilliant mind. Mr. Futty had a heart of gold, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in his path who may be in need. He was a man with a sense of humor that would make even the devil himself laugh. His sense of humor was present up to his passing. He accomplished much in his professional life but his biggest accomplishment was his family whom he loved immensely. He will be sorely missed by the love of his life, Shelly.
Mr. Futty was preceded in death by his beloved Pop Pop and Mom Mom Futty. He is survived by his beautiful bride and soul mate Shelly (Misch) Futty; three children: Tara, Amanda and Michael, II; two grandsons: Alex and Kyle; special aunt, Arleen Higgins and her husband Ray and many other family members.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Friends may also visit the funeral home on Monday, January 26, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will be private.
