Maureen Patricia Chu's Obituary
Maureen Patricia (Neubelt) Chu of Lewes, DE, died Monday, October 22, 2018, at home. She was the beloved wife for 51 years of Robert Chu. She was born on September 2, 1929, in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Sweeney) Neubelt.
She graduated from St. Elizabeth's College in Convent Station, NJ with a degree in Fashion Design. After graduating, she worked in the textile industry buying fabrics internationally. For most of her life, she designed and made all of her own clothing. In 1967, she married Bob, her special partner. They both enjoyed skiing in this country and abroad, especially in Austria.
She and her husband also enjoyed traveling, here and internationally. Visiting cultural centers in European cities provided them pleasure. They also discovered the pleasures of ocean and river cruises. A special treat for a sister-in-law and niece was a cruise to the Panama Canal. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Lewes, DE where she became active in a variety of pursuits. Among those was conducting tours of historic houses, assisting the Lewes library in the selection of new books, and participating in classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Delaware in Lewes, DE.
Maureen is survived, in addition to her husband, by her sisters-in-law Joy Covell of Chelsea, MA, Kay (Stephen) Friedel of Selden, NY, Elaine (Edward) Neubelt of Manchester, CT, and brother-in-law Malcolm (Grace) Chu of Glen Rock, NJ.
She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews including: Kathleen Ryan, John (Linda) Neubelt, Thomas (Linda) Neubelt, Robert (Jeanne) Neubelt, Michael (Melanie) Neubelt, Joseph Neubelt, Mary (William) Cardarelli, and Elizabeth Neubelt, Alfred (Nancy) Yee Litt, Daryl (Deborah) Yee Litt, Jeffrey (Donna) Yee Litt, Lisa (Troy) Ennico, and Grant (Deborah) Covell
She was pre-deceased by her brothers Edward (Ted) and John (Jackie) Neubelt and sister-in-law Silvia (George) Yee Litt. She will also be missed by her many cousins and cherished neighbors and friends
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE.
