Matthew T. Rowan's Obituary
Matthew T. Rowan, age 44, passed away on August 19, 2025, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 19, 1981, he was the beloved son of Lynne Isaacs Rowan and the late Hugh Rowan.
Homeschooled and graduate of the Class of 1999, Matthew lived a life defined by hard work, creativity, and unwavering faith. He worked in masonry for over 15 years, where he developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, before transitioning into a successful career in restaurant management.
Matthew had a profound love for the outdoors—fishing was his favorite way to unwind and connect with nature. A gifted singer and guitarist, his passion for music led him to serve as the worship team leader for over a decade at Gateway Fellowship Church in Bridgeville, DE. His deep faith and generous spirit also carried him across the globe as he participated in mission work in Africa, Romania, Haiti, and Ukraine.
Known for his infectious laugh, playful spirit, and ability to make others smile, Matthew brought light and warmth to every room he entered. He was goofy, silly, loyal, and fiercely protective of his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Rowan, in 2014, his grandparents Joseph and Lillian Rowan, Earle and Mary Alice Isaacs.
Matthew is survived by his devoted wife of 17 years, Dorothy Rowan; his loving mother, Lynne Isaacs Rowan; his cherished children, Judah and Eden Rowan; and his siblings: Jennifer Rowan, Sarah Rowan-Hostetler, and Steven Rowan (Lauren). He also leaves behind his treasured nieces and nephews: Zach Rowan, Luke Rowan, Benjamin Rowan, Cadence Hostetler, Harbor Rowan, Haven Rowan, and Hadley Rowan; his tight-knit "mancation group" of lifelong friends; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who will deeply miss him.
