My deepest sympathy to my cousin Matthew's family. I have been reading all the wonderful compliments about Matthew and I hope they are bringing his family comfort.Matthew's parents, my Aunt Joan and Uncle Matt, were wonderful people so I am not surprised Matthew was such a fine person. I have nothing but wonderful memories about all my aunts and uncles in the Coffey family. and it doesn't matter if they were born in the family or married in they were all great. Unfortunately we never met Matt, and sadly only met his son, Matt, for the first time last week following our own loss, despite Matt being an extended member of our family. We were very touched to see Matt come out and support us during such a difficult time for himself and his own family, and the gesture was greatly appreciated.

Our hearts go out to you and your family. We are sorry that we cannot make it down to Delaware for the services, but we hope that a donation to the Gastric Cancer Foundation will make a difference in Matt's honor.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Matt's untimely death. I never met Matt, but I felt like I knew him based on the many stories Valerie shared with me throughout the years we worked together. I hope and pray that the fond memories of your time with Matt will continue to bring you comfort during this difficult time. My heart and prayers go out to the entire family.

I have started writing something 20 times. Bottom line Matt was a decent person actually way more than a decent person who was taken too soon. I had the privilege to meet him through Val. I don't think I'm communicating any revelation when I say their marriage and relationship was unique, special and something ...to be quite honest... I was super jealous of...just kidding....kind of!! However you cannot be jealous for too long when coming across someone so honest and decent. I remember speaking with Val when she would tell me that post retirement Matt was back and forth between Virginia and Long Island to help care for his grandchildren....and ummmm build some stuff!!!! It was clear this was not a sacrifice or obligation but something they both relished. Anyway I can go on and on but I am certainly not going to share anything that the rest of you don't already know. I am not super religious but Heaven sure as hell gained an angel.

My heart cries for Val, her children ,grandchildren, family and friends but rejoices in the memories they have a very special man.

Matt you will always be remembered by your friends Carol & Bob Cavallero at Nassau Grove. I remember first meeting you at a Clubhouse Event. You came over to us introduced yourself and said, "If you ever need anything just call me" and you continued to give us your cell number. That was our first introduction and you have always been such a wonderful neighbor and always in our hearts. May God keep you close and may you rest in peace. We will dearly miss you.

Matt was a wonderful friend and neighbor. We spent many hours together playing music and working on arrangements. His craftsmanship was incredible from his finished basement to an amazing deck. I am very grateful for the opportunity to form a friendship with Matt.
