Mary "Mary Lou" Louise Pierson's Obituary
Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Pierson, age 90, most recently of Seaford, DE, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at ACTS Manor House in Seaford. She lived in Vineland for most of her 90 years where she was born on June 19, 1930, daughter of the late Roland and Mabel Potter owners of Potters Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pierson was a graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1947. She attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry in 1951. Following her graduation from college, Mrs. Pierson worked for two years for the DuPont Chemical Company in Wilmington, then for the Vineland State School for girls. She went back to school at Glassboro State College and received her teaching certification, after which she began a new career in education, teaching at Olivet School in Pittsgrove Township, NJ for more than 20 dedicated years. In 1987 she received the New Jersey Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta Educational Society.
Mrs. Pierson was a member of the Eastern Star Shekinah Chapter #82, and First United Methodist Church of Vineland, where she also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed volunteering to teach art at local schools, knitting and crossword puzzles, but none so much as being a mother, creating a home, and raising her beautiful family. Mrs. Pierson was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pierson was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Francis Pierson of the Little Robin Duck Farm in 2017, and her sister, Johanna Quay. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Pierson of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and her son, David Pierson of Stevensville, MD, and his husband Matthew Davis.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no in-person services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Mrs. Pierson's memory to the First United Methodist Church of Vineland, 700 E. Landis Ave., Vineland, NJ 08360.
