Martin Dare Furnish's Obituary
Martin D. “Hoagie” Furnish, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 19, 2017. He was born on December 2, 1942 in New Albany, IN, son of the late Richard and Justine (Martin) Furnish.
Hoagie was best known as the Shrine clown who loved to entertain children (and adults). He is a Past Master of Jefferson Lodge, No. 15 AF & AM in Lewes, DE and was Past Junior Grand Deacon of the Grand Lodge of Delaware. He was also Boss Clown of Nur Shrine Clowns of Wilmington, DE and President of the Mid Atlantic Shrine Clown Association. Hoagie was a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Wilmington. Hoagie loved his motorhome (Ava) and would camp anywhere, anytime. He and his stories will be dearly missed by many friends and family.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Eileen Furnish; his four children: daughter Tina Clendaniel and husband, John; son Dean Furnish and wife, Sheila; daughter Cheryl Mills and husband, Greg; and daughter Becky Huling and husband, Mark. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday Aug. 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Henlopen Memorial Park, 28787 Lockerman Road, Milton, DE.
Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6-9PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where masonic services will be held at 7:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Hoagie’s memory to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3551 North Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19140; a cause near and dear to Hoagie’s heart.
