Martin looked (and acted) like Elvis Presley when I was 9 & 10 years old attending Mrs. White’s 4th then Mrs. Ingram’s 5th grade classes and my family lived in the First Baptist church parsonage on Kings Highway in Lewes.
Martin lived in a trailer home with his pleasant parents on the other side of a farm for retired sulky-trained bay thoroughbreds with its lane that connected our house to his.
He and his beautiful girlfriend (she looked like Audrey Hepburn) would take me, maybe as a practice kid, to Rehoboth Beach where we’d stroll the boardwalk.
He was the best older brother though we weren’t related.
It was the favorite place I lived growing up.
Ellen and I visited Lewes in 2019 when my sister-in-law’s play was being staged and I drove that farm lane to the little park with the brown trailer. I didn’t knock for some reason, and now I know he wouldn’t have answered the door.
My thoughts are with Martin’s family.
