Marilyn Kathryn McMahon's Obituary
Marilyn “Marti” Kathryn McMahon, age 75, of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2022. She was born on February 23, 1947, in Pittsburgh, PA in Allegheny County, daughter of the late Harold “Hans” Crawford and Vera “Bebe” Kathryn (Reddick) Jones.
Marilyn was a 1965 graduate of Fairview Township Karns City Joint High School. She went on to attend the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education, graduating in 1969. Marilyn’s passion was the English language and she made it her life’s mission to enthusiastically teach the intricacies of the English language to high school students, a career that gave her a tremendous amount of pride. In 1974, Marilyn left Pennsylvania and made her home in Southern Delaware, teaching at Seaford High School before retiring to enjoy the beaches, the salt air, and the beauty of the area.
Marilyn’s faith was a pillar in her life and she was a devout member of the Grace of God Lutheran Church in Long Neck, DE, where she enjoyed being a member of the choir and being involved in their charitable work such as the Food Pantry and Grocery Club. She had many hobbies and was a member of the Sussex County Genealogical Society, the Seaford “Birdies” Retired Teacher Group, and working with the Seaman Ditty Box Drive, to collect toiletries, warm hats and scarves that would get delivered to the Port of Wilmington. Maine was a happy place for her, she enjoyed the outdoors and the flowers she would discover there. Marilyn found knitting to be restorative and therapeutic, and she created many beautiful pieces. She liked playing cards, good music, and rooting for her Pittsburgh Steelers.
Marilyn is survived by her dog, Blue and by many, many friends, whose hearts she touched. She was a bright light, a loving and devoted daughter, teacher, and a loyal friend, who will be deeply missed by those fortunate to have known her.
A celebration of her life is being planned for a future date.
