Margaret E. McGee's Obituary
Margaret E. McGee, age 95, of Lewes, DE, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Renaissance Health Care in Millsboro, DE. Ms. McGee was born October 30, 1915 in Rochester, NY, daughter of the late James and Claire (Rossney) McGee.
Ms. McGee received a Master of Arts degree from Catholic University in Washington, DC. She moved to Wilmington, DE in the 1950's where she served as Executive Secretary for the Diocesan Welfare Guild which was the forerunner to Catholic Charities. Ms. McGee was passionate about caring for the poor and loved her work. After 30 years of service, she retired as Deputy Director of Catholic Charities for the Wilmington Diocese. In 1965, she was awarded the rare Papal Benemerenti Medal by Pope Paul VI and in 2005 was recognized by Pope Benedict XVI for her life work on behalf of the unfortunate. Ms. McGee moved to Sussex County in 2004 to be near loved ones.
Ms. McGee is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 16, 2011, 11:00 AM, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Lewes, DE. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery, Newark, NY. Arrangements Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ms. McGee to Casa San Francisco, PO Box 38, Milton, DE 19968.
