Louis Winfield Rieder lll's Obituary
Louis Rieder III, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away suddenly on March 21, 2023, at the age of 74, in Milton, DE. Louis was born on March 21, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA, to Louis Rieder Jr and Martha Mitchell Rieder. He was the loving husband of Barbara Rieder, and they were married on February 24, 1973, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA.
Louis was a devoted father to his three children, Louis IV (Kelly), Jessica Mahoney (Sean), and Andrew, and a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren: Louis V, Derek, Ailyn, and Cian. He was a proud graduate of Southern Regional High School in New Jersey in 1967 and Washington and Lee University in Virginia in 1971, where he received a BS in Business and Public Administration.
Louis began his career in radio broadcasting before venturing into entrepreneurship in 1983, selling computer software to credit unions. He later joined the American Red Cross, where he held several roles, including Chief Financial Officer for the Wilmington chapter and later for the Lancaster chapter. He dedicated much of his career to serving others and was a beacon of hope and compassion in his community.
Louis was an exceptional coach who devoted much of his time and energy to mentoring young athletes. He coached in the Delaware Babe Ruth 16-18 Baseball League and helped lead the league's World Series teams in 1983 and 1984. Louis was particularly proud of his team's victory in the 1983 Babe Ruth World Series in Newark, Ohio. He continued coaching his children in soccer, basketball, and baseball throughout their childhood.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Louis had many hobbies and interests. He was an avid traveler and history enthusiast, and he enjoyed spending the day at the beach with his family, participating in the Delaware Seashore Parrot Head Club and leading the Community Social Committee.
Louis will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. Louis will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
