I have had a note reminder in my phone for 2 years to never forget how much Uncle Laymen loved banana cream pie, so that I could bring him one when we come to visit. He couldn’t believe that I remembered it was his favorite, and was so surprised over what I thought was a simple gesture of thoughtfulness. The thought meant more to him, and that I took note to remember how much he loved it, than the actual pie did. We will miss him very much, and we will especially think of him any time we see a banana cream pie, a sunset before a storm, a Cracker Barrel, a sitting chair, a classic model collectible car, his favorite half and half diet iced tea, capturing memories by photograph, and every single thanksgiving. Thank you for welcoming me into your life, your family, and your home. Thank you for spending time with my children, speaking to them with intent, engaging, asking questions, and teaching them about the things you thought were of importance. Being able to witness the marriage, love and partnership between him and Aunt Cathy— it’s something I will always cherish, and hope to one day be a model for others in the same way that they have for us. Rest in eternal peace, comfort, and happiness with the Lord and your loved ones.
