Kevin Patrick Rooney's Obituary
Kevin Patrick Rooney, 83, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026.
Born on February 13, 1943, in New York, New York, Kevin was the beloved son of the late Thadeus and Beatrice Rooney. He was raised in New York City and graduated from Bishop Dubois High School, Class of 1960. He went on to attend St. John’s University in Queens before proudly serving in the National Guard.
In 1965, Kevin married the love of his life, Emma Ann (Avalone) Rooney. Their story began on Wall Street, where they met while working for insurance companies—an encounter that would lead to a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Kevin built a successful career as a marketing executive, working for various companies over the years before eventually retiring to Delaware. Though he was dedicated to his profession, it was his life outside of work that truly defined him.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Kevin had a lifelong love for basketball, baseball, and football. He was a devoted fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than talking sports, watching a game, or getting out to play. During his children’s younger years, one of his greatest joys was coaching their Babe Ruth Little League teams, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Kevin was known for his strong personality and unmistakable presence. He never hesitated to share his opinion—whether it was asked for or not—and those who knew him appreciated his honesty, humor, and authenticity. A proud Irishman, Kevin found simple happiness in good conversation, a pint of Guinness, and time spent with his friends, which he considered the highlight of his days.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is preceded in passing by his siblings: Mary Walsh, Thomas Rooney, Ann Nissen, and Sheila Rooney. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emma Ann Rooney; his sons: Brian Rooney and his wife, Carolyn and Kevin Rooney and his wife Jeanne; his grandchildren: Jennifer, Samantha, Rebecca, Kyra, and Bryce; one great grandchild, Julianna; and his brother in law, Dominick Avalone and his wife, Elizabeth.
Services will be announced at a later date.
