John Richley Williams Jr.'s Obituary

John Richley Williams Jr., age 67 of Millsboro, DE, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. He was born on August 5, 1951 in Lanham, MD, son of the late John R., Sr. and Grace Agnes Williams.
John had an illustrious career in law enforcement. He started his career in Prince George's County, MD, where in addition to being a police officer, he was the head K-9 trainer for his department. He assisted other departments on the East Coast establish their K-9 units, as well. John became nationally certified in K-9 training and participated in many national activities. He also functioned as a detective for a period of time. After leaving Prince George's County, John continued police work as Lieutenant at Frederick County PD. He devoted 42 years to police work, ending his career at the top of his field as Chief of Police for the Sykesville PD, from 2001 to 2013.
John's hobbies were many and varied and included traveling, kayaking, hiking, running, and collecting classic cars. He played a 3-string cigar box guitar and enjoyed socializing with neighbors, friends, and other car enthusiasts. His most passionate love, however, was for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was an adoring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters: Grace Ann Hance and Joan Marie Guider. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Williams; his son, Casey Williams; his daughter, Megan Schoepf; his grandchildren: Jaden Newcomer, Carter Fannin, Jake Newcomer, Roman Williams, Braxton Schoepf, and Payton Schoepf (to be arriving soon); and his sister, Betty Ledford.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in John's memory to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology: Kimmel Cancer Center, 750 East Pratt Street, Suite 1700, Baltimore, MD 21202; Attention: Stephanie Davis.
