Dear Janko, we will remember you in Prague and in the Slovakia very oft.
I am so very sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a very kind man and our family always thought of him as more family than friend. I never referred to him as Mr. Liska growing up, just Uncle John.
I remember wonderful parties as a young girl at the various Cannon and Herd homes. I remember how much Uncle John loved eating "Stedamomma's" wonderful apple streudel.
Uncle John played a particularly important role in my family's life in that each of my brother's very first paid job was at the Safeway down the street from us thanks to his help.
I enjoyed receiving Christmas cards from him every year and the family updates that he provided. He was sharp and even corrected my spelling of Rehoboth a few years back!
My heart goes out to the family. He was a wonderful man and his kindness and gentle words will be missed by all.
Love to everyone,

So sad to hear of "Uncle John" passing. My first real job at Safeway was due to John. That job helped me through undergraduate and graduate school.
I was a 17year old bag boy at Langley Park when word came that John Liska was coming to visit the store. Management went into a panic, ordering me about, cleaning and trying to make the store look presentable.
Finally he showed up. The Manager and Assistant Managers all lined up to greet him, life the troops lining up for inspection by The General.
I walked past all of them, gave him a big hug and loud "Uncle John, how are you!", for all to see and hear.
Everyone's collective jaw dropped. "You know LISKA!?!?"
Priceless!
Strangely, I was promoted to Cashier within a week.
A kind, wonderful man. Our condolences to all his extend Family and Friends.

John was my close neighbor and good friend the last nine years. I will miss him as I am sure his family does.
We know you will miss this strong, wonderful family member, and we send our sincere sympathies to each of you.
Honest and loyal, kind and good humored. One of the most decent men I've ever known. So many of us at Safeway were much the better for having known him. RIPkxam
It has been our great pleasure to be neighbors with John for these last 10 years. He was always a warm and kind presence and he will be very much missed by all who knew him.
Our Dear Friend---a neighbor, a gardener, (especially tomato's), a leader and resident of Spring Lake. He will be missed
We love you very much Uncle John, say hello to Staramama, Daddy and Aunt Ollie.
Mr Liska was a legend in the Washington DC/Eastern Division of Safeway. Many very successful Safeway managers contributed much of their success to teh training and leadership of Mr Liska. We live in a better world today for having benefitted from his leadership.
