John N. Chapin Jr.'s Obituary
John N. “Jack” Chapin, Jr. passed peacefully Sunday, November 12, 2023, at age 89. He was born on December 26, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, son of John N. and Dora Chapin.
Jack attended University City High School in St. Louis, DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and Washington University in St. Louis where he received his MBA. He then served in the U. S. Army as a First Lieutenant. Following his honorable discharge, Jack worked for AT & T and IBM Corporation (St. Louis and Chicago) before joining Coopers & Lybrand where he was partner-in-charge, Litigation & Claims Services for Chicago. He was a Certified Management Consultant, National Chairman of the Institute of Management Consultants and a Fellow of the Institute.
Jack was actively involved in the communities in which he lived - some of which include Sigma Chi Fraternity where he was awarded The Order of Constantine, Winnetka Presbyterian Church, Skokie County Club, Presbyterian Homes of Chicago, Fox Meadow Community Association, Northfield Village Board, Lewes Presbyterian Church, and Rehoboth Beach Country Club. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Meryl Carolyn; his daughters Carolyn Chapin (Peter) Strandberg, and Sharon Chapin (Bill) Crist; and his grandchildren Taylor Crist (Rima) Valavicius, Jack Strandberg, Will Crist and Alison Chapin Strandberg.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 1:00 pm at The Moorings, 17028 Cadbury Circle, Lewes, Delaware, 19958, with a reception to follow.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE 19958.
