I am so sorry to hear about this. I was just now reading about Mr. Chapin in a Sigma Chi newsletter. My late parents were friends, and I learned from my parents that the Chapins were lovely.

As a contemporary of Sharon's, the Chapin family were, and remain, some of the finest people I have ever known. Their presence at the Winnetka Presbyterian Church, and in the broader community, was always incredibly warm, caring and generous. Meryl with her infectious laugh and personality, Sharon and Carolyn always providing talent, grace and charm in the choir and everywhere else, and always evident, even in the background, was the strong, kind, intelligent positive presence of Jack--the very image of a father, husband, Christian man. So many prayers, and so much love, for the wonderful Chapin family. Heaven has just gotten even better (although, I suspect my Dad and Jack may be forming a committee on improvements. :) )
Some people live long and live well...and sad is the day we have to say goodbye. Jack was Proud, Brave, True - together we mourn this loss.

I met Mr. Chapin for the first time in 1983. His moral compass and quick wit allowed him to be simultaneously a man for all seasons as well as man fully present for whomever needed assistance. His leadership in the family and his spheres of influence were readily observed. It was his love and devotion for 3 women - his wife two daughters, that made the greatest impression on me. His understanding band execution of doing the right thing is an example I respect.
Well done good and faithful servant.
