John Caycedo's Obituary
John Caycedo passed away on January 30, 2026 at home in Lewes, DE at the age of 57. John was born in Colombia, South America on July 30, 1968 to the (late) Alfonso Caycedo and Cristel Caycedo. John is survived by his mother, one sibling, Pilar Nealis (Jason) and his wife Adrienne Caycedo. John also is survived by two children, Brandon Caycedo and Trevor Caycedo; three step children, Jacob Essex, Lauren Essex and Morgan Essex; and one grandchild, Ezekiel Essex.
John and his family immigrated to the United States in 1976 and settled in Alexandria, VA. John proudly became a naturalized citizen in 1985 at the age of 17. John graduated from West Potomac High School in Alexandria, VA in 1987. He then joined the Air Force and proudly served our country through five years of active duty and many more years in the Reserves. He gladly continued to serve our country as a Security Specialist working for the US Government, retiring in 2021 due to his illness.
John courageously fought a glioblastoma cancer for the past 5 1/2 years, openly sharing his journey with family, friends, and other cancer patients. Through his strong faith and resilience he outlived his initial prognosis of 18 months and lived life to the fullest during these years. He was an inspiration to many by his strength, faith, tenacity, and love of life.
John had many passions and hobbies. He loved the ocean, going to the beach, scuba diving, riding motorcycles, football and baseball, spending time with family and friends, and he loved making people laugh. Additionally, John had a love for all people; he participated in many charity organizations to help his fellow brothers and sisters as he called them.
John was loved by all, and his lifelong lessons and humor will remain imprinted in all those he touched.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, followed the next day by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Dr., Lewes, DE, where family and friends can visit from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
