John Aloysius Hanley's Obituary
John "Jack" Aloysius Hanley, Jr., age 73, of Bethany Beach, DE, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. He was born in Wilmington, DE on Thursday, January 5, 1939, son of the late John A. and Veronica (Conlin) Hanley.
Mr. Hanley was a graduate of St. Paul Catholic School, a 1956 graduate of Salesianum and a graduate of Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for over 30 years for the City of Wilmington in the Public Works Department as a Civil Engineer. He co-owned the Hanley-Lisinski Surveyors, a residential land surveying business.
Formerly of Hockessin, he retired to Bethany Beach in 2000. Jack taught Environmental Resources classes at Delaware Technical & Community College and won the " 2007 Water Operator of the Year" award. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and an avid Delaware Blue Hens football fan. He loved the beach and spent his retirement years on the beach with his children, grandchildren and extended family. He was a wonderful father, brother and grandfather and will be sorely missed.
Mr. Hanley is survived by his twin sons, John A. Hanley and his wife Yvonne of Bethany Beach and James A. Hanley and his wife Sandra of Wilmington; his daughter, Therese H. Alvarez and her husband Mark of Scituate, MA; six grandchildren: Sarah, Andrew, Finn, Lilah, Mason and Thomas; and his sister, Letitia Ryan and her husband Philip of Pocomoke City, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930. The family will greet friends at the church beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at a later date.
