Jerome M. Neitzey's Obituary
Jerome Martin “Marty” Neitzey, 67, of Bridgeville, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Delaware, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family, cherished “Twin Home” neighbors Ginny and Tom Horsey, and the compassionate physicians, nurses, and staff who made his final days comfortable and peaceful.
Born on December 29, 1958, at Prince George’s County Hospital in Cheverly, Maryland, Marty was the son of the late John Francis and Rose Carolyn Neitzey (Wersick). He graduated from DeMatha High School in 1977 and later attended trade school.
On September 18, 1999, Marty married the love of his life, Beatrice “Bea” Neitzey (Wilson), at Dahlgren Chapel in Boonsboro, Maryland a reception was held at the Old South Mountain Inn. He enjoyed a successful career as a Facilities Manager with Prince George County Government before retiring in 2021.
Retirement allowed Marty to spend even more time enjoying the hobbies he loved. He had a natural talent for golf, poker, bass fishing, and shooting sports. He was a member of the Heritage Shores 18-Hole Men’s League and the Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club. Marty was also a devoted Maryland Terrapins basketball fan, a passion that began after his days playing CYO basketball at St. Jerome’s in Hyattsville, Maryland.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bea, Marty is survived by his stepsons, Vincent Cush (Hannah Brady) and Ryan Cush (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Lindsay, William, and Natalie Cush; his brothers, J. Matthew Neitzey (Barbara), J. Mitchell Neitzey, J. Mark Neitzey (Denise), and J. Malcolm Neitzey, along with many loving brothers- and sisters-in-law; Jeanne Rosenberger (John), Cathy Cook (Bill), Patricia Moore, Jeannie Tarran (Dennis), Jim Wilson (JoAnn), Clyde Wilson (Bernadette), Brenda Pusso (Keith), Frances Wilson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Francis and Rose Carolyn Neitzey; his brother J. Michael Neitzey, mother-in-law, Gertrude Wilson; and his nephews, Nicholas and Joseph.
Marty’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Tunnell Cancer Center in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, as well as the specialists and transplant/leukemia team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, whose exceptional care, compassion, and dedication gave Marty many years of hope. They also wish to thank the many family members and friends whose meals, visits, cards, phone calls, car rides to Philadelphia, and unwavering love carried Marty through his journey. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
