James E. Lynch's Obituary
James E. Lynch, 83, of Rehoboth, DE passed away Friday, September 3, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center surrounded by his family. Jim, also affectionately known as "Pop Jim," was born January 7, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late James Lynch and Rose Nemethy Lynch.
Jim was raised in Wilmington, DE from an early age, and moved to Rehoboth Beach in the 1980's. A United States Navy veteran, Jim served during World War II, receiving the Pacific Theater Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Pop Jim was a gentle and loving man, and will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him. One of his greatest pleasures was woodworking. He was an excellent carpenter, building his home, several small fishing boats, and many, many pieces of furniture. At the end of every summer, he would start an assembly line in his garage, making Christmas gifts out of wood for his children, grandchildren and friends. Sometimes he would make as many as 30-40 items. Everyone looked forward to what he would make every year. He was truly a craftsman.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (Smith) Lynch. Jim is survived by his second wife, Mildred (Daisey) Lynch; his son, James D. Lynch and his wife Lynn of Elsmere, DE; 3 stepsons: Larry Daisey and his wife Sherry of Milton, DE, Bill Daisey and his wife Kathleen of Milton, DE, Michael Daisey and his wife Jennifer of Milton, DE; 3 stepdaughters: Adele Powers and her husband Jim of Rehoboth, DE, Julie Tigue and her husband Mike of Lewes, DE, Michele Travis and her husband Brad of Lewes, DE; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 nephews: Donald Smith and Jack Smith and several grand nieces and nephews.
