James David Kane's Obituary
James David (JD) Kane, age 23, of Ocean View, DE, passed away on December 4, 2024.
JD graduated from Sussex Technical High School and later attended George Mason University, where he studied Environmental Science. As a member of Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF), JD had enriching experiences in Hawaii and Maryland, where he learned about regenerative agriculture and embraced diverse cultural experiences. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially the ocean, and spent many hours bodyboarding and surfing. JD was a dedicated lifeguard for two years with the Delaware State Beach Patrol, working at Bethany Beach, Delaware Seashore State Parks, and Tower Rd Beaches.
JD was known for his kindness, warmth, wit, and big heart. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with everyone he met and always made an effort to ensure the comfort and well-being of others. His friendly and genuine nature left a lasting impression on everyone around him, and he is deeply missed by all who knew him.
JD was preceded in death by his biological father, David Kane; his maternal grandparents, William and Elaine Masterson; his paternal grandparents, Gene Wharton and Barbara Kauffman; and his paternal grandmother, Margaret Kane.
He is survived by his parents, Nancy and Kevin Wharton; his siblings, Amber Graham (Cody) and Kevin Wharton, Jr.; his paternal grandfather, John Kane; his uncles, Greg Masterson, John Kane (Kristy), and Jeff Wharton (Peggy); his aunts Christine Johnson (Christopher), Maura Fitzgerald (Peter), and Beth Rogers (Dave); multiple cousins; and his nephew, Oliver Graham.
A service will be held in January.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Surfrider Foundation, dedicated to the protection of the world's ocean waves.
