James William Hamilton's Obituary
James William (Bill) Hamilton “Hammer”, age 57, of Ocean View, DE passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012 at his residence. He was born October 5, 1955, son of Betty Jordan Hamilton of Star, NC and the late Rev. James W. Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton attended NC State University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Science of Recreation and Park Administration, graduating in 1978. He was a four year letterman in golf and was selected for All Atlantic Coast Conference Team in 1977. Mr. Hamilton turned pro in 1978 and became a lifetime member of the PGA. He remained an avid Wolfpack fan.
Mr. Hamilton worked in many capacities in the golfing industry. He served as VP of Golf Operations for Carolina’s Golf Group in Raleigh, NC from 1992 to 1999. From 1999 to present, Mr. Hamilton was employed by Carl M. Freeman and Troon Golf as Director of Golf for Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club, The Bay Club, and Bayside Resort Golf Club. He was known as a consummate professional in his field.
In addition to his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Beth), Mr. Hamilton is survived by his mother, Betty Jordan Hamilton of Star, NC; two sons Jason W. Hamilton and wife Katy, Kyle A. Hamilton and wife Vanessa, all of Raleigh, NC; a stepson, David W. Hyde of Clayton, NC; stepdaughter, Kristy M. Hyde of Alpharetta, GA; two brothers, Don Hamilton and wife Connie of Lynchburg, VA and Joseph Hamilton and wife Penny of Star, NC; a sister, Sally Williams and husband Steve of Randleman, NC , 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM and on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 3:00PM – 5:00PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium – Clarksville Chapel, 34874 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean View, DE. There will be a reception to follow services on Wednesday, January 2nd at The Cove restaurant at Bayside Resort Golf Club. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00AM at the Ether Methodist Church in Ether, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, 36097 Sand Cove Road, Selbyville, DE 19975.
