Prior to entering the Air Force with my older sibling, Jim maintained a rather lucrative newspaper route (door-to-door) in our small community. Both a morning and an afternoon edition, which meant traversing our streets before and following school daily plus weekends. Because of his promptness and reliability, folks in our town commented they could set their clocks by the sound of their newspaper landing on their porch or placed behind screen doors. He wanted that trait to continue when he left so he passed the route down to me. I kept that tradition going for several years, through high school and halfway through college. That route actually made going to college possible for me.
It isn't until recent years that I learned of where he planted roots following his service time and the fact that he continued his trait of service to others following retirement from the Air Force was not surprising and a testament to his character, that's just who he was.
My sincere condolences to his entire extended family. A life well lived, but gone too soon.
