Jacklynn P. Hitchens' Obituary
Jacklynn P. Hitchens of Ocean Way Estates, Ocean View, DE died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, DE. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Harry and Esther Poritzky on November 28, 1923. She married George D. Hitchens, then of Wilmington, DE, on December 16, 1949.
Jackie enlisted in the Women's Army Corp in January 1944, retiring from the USAF in June 1965 at the rank of Master Sergeant. Her military specialties included aircraft mechanic and medical materiael. Her assignments included Vienna, Austria; Bolling AFB, Washington, DC; Rhein Main AB, Germany; Ruislip AS, England; and Travis AFB, CA. Her decorations include the WWII Victory Medal.
Following her retirement, Jackie accompanied her husband on civil service assignments to England and Germany. During her time in Germany, she managed the Officers' Wives Club Thrift Shop and devoted numerous hours to volunteer work. Jackie and George settled in Ocean View in 1985. They were members of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, George D. Hitchens, nephew Paul Hitchens of Rehoboth Beach, DE; nieces Gloria Bram of Port Townsend, WA and Sanda Everette of San Mateo, CA; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Ft. Myer Chapel, Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 3 PM; burial will follow immediately. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19713.
