William R. Rockholt
Last January, my daughter and I went to Arlington, for the first time. Being a Jew, I kept my eye out for Stars of David, among the many Christian crosses. On our way out of the cemetery, I felt compelled to pick up a stone and examine the graves we were passing.
One of those graves was that of MSgt. Jacklynn P. Hitchens, USAF. I placed my solitary stone upon her grave, and wept for the courage this woman must have had. To be a Jewish woman, in the U.S. Armed Forces, and rise to the rank of Master Sargent, she must have been something really special. In fact, I called my 10 year old daughter over, to pay her respects.
Jacklynn Hitchens is MY personal hero, this Memorial Day.
