In 1940, Irene and I graduated from Lewes High School. After graduation, we went our separate ways. In our retirement years, my husband, Willis Groome, and I moved back to Lewes. We became reacquainted and became good friends. We had many good times together. We enjoyed Irene's company and music. I live in Dumfries, VA now.

So sorry for your loss. I knew Irene for many years since she was a dear friend of my mother, Margaret Downs. I remember her always having a smile on her face, even though I am sure there were times she didn't feel like smiling. She was a wonderful woman.
Dear family and loved ones, God had blessed us all with her presence, her love and her understanding. She was an amazing and truly inspirational person! We all have some wonderful and pleasant memories to keep in our hearts forever. She will definitely be missed and never be forgotten. Her life and legacy lives on. She has prayed for each of us. Irene Hazzard was a very generous Christian. That generosity poured forth in many ways. She took care of her family, and offered her musical talents to Groome UMC, Bethel UMC, and local nursing homes. She was always sending cards of encouragement to her friends and associates. Irene was able to remain positive when things and people around her were giving her reasons not to be. I can't begin to list the many kindnesses shown to Cathy and me by this wonderful person.

We worked together at Stockley in the laboratory, and tried to keep in touch once she left. I know her family was her heart and soul, she loved you all dearly.
