Homer Lee Elliott's Obituary
Homer Lee Elliott passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, Delaware. He was 86 years old.
Born on August 3, 1938, in Lexington, Indiana, Homer grew up in a close-knit community and attended Lexington High School, graduating in 1956. He earned an undergraduate degree in Latin and Classical Studies from Indiana University, a testament to his lifelong love of language, history, and scholarship. Homer studied the classics at Princeton University, languages at the Army Language School, and earned a Juris Doctor at William & Mary Law School.
Homer built a distinguished career as a lawyer, practicing at the esteemed firms of Steptoe & Johnson, Drinker Biddle & Reath, and Duane Morris. His sharp intellect, integrity, and dedication to justice left a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike. He also served his country as a military officer, embodying a deep sense of duty and service throughout his life.
Homer is survived by his loving husband, David, who was his partner in life and adventure. He was a devoted father to his children, Homer Elliott II (Robin), Charles Elliott (Karen), and Jane Willcox (Paul), and a cherished grandfather to John, Holden, and Ella. He is also survived by his sisters Virginia, Barbara, and Beverly, and his brother Ronnie. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mabel, and by his child, William John. His family was the heart of his world, and he found immense joy in their company.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Homer was a man of deep curiosity and passion. He had a love for history, reading, gardening, and spending time with his dog, Parker. Homer will be remembered for his kindness, wit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy of warmth, wisdom, and humor will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A service to celebrate Homer’s life will be on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
