Born in Washington, D.C. on May 20, 1954, she identified as a lifelong Washingtonian and carried the city's vibrant energy and resilience with her throughout her life.
Gail enjoyed a remarkable 40+ year career as a federal civil servant, contributing her talents to various agencies, including DHS, DON, DOA, ATF, GSA, and NSF. Known for her dedication and integrity in all of her professional roles, she made a lasting impact wherever she worked by always embodying a spirit of creativity and collaboration. She valued education, earning both a BA in Interior Design and an MBA from the University of Maryland, reflecting her belief in the importance of lifelong learning.
Gail lived her life by following her passions. She found joy in cooking, gardening, travelling, and voraciously reading, as well as in designing beautiful spaces. A true nature enthusiast, she loved to watch diamonds on the water, chase sunsets, and in her younger years hike the National Parks.
Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her loving daughter Kelley Ann Oklesson and daughter-in-law Sarah Middleton of University Park, MD; her former husband Edward Oklesson; her siblings Bryan Singleton of Miami, FL, and Cheryl Vanderzwet of Burtonsville, MD; and her cherished nephews Jon Michael and Steven Vanderzwet, and Bryan St. Clair.
