Frederick Eugene Nunley Sr's Obituary
Frederick Eugene Nunley, Sr. passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, in his Delaware home after suffering from metastasized bone cancer. He was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, on March 15, 1941.
Fred had an impressive career that began in banking. He became Assistant Treasurer of the C & O Railroad and served as administrator at several community colleges including Dundalk Community College where, as Finance Dean, he helped to create the Dundalk Campus. He was the financial head at the National Council on the Aging. He retired from Prince George’s Community College as Vice President of Finance and Administration. Fred’s unwavering belief in equitable and responsible decision making brought him recognition as a compassionate and strong leader, advocate, and mentor in both his personal and professional lives.
Fred Nunley loved people and knew how to instantly connect with others, even strangers. One of his neighbors put it best, referring to Fred as a “One Man Welcome Wagon.” Over the years, Fred helped so many family members and friends that, in his final days, he was overwhelmed by calls from loved ones telling him how much he had meant in their lives. Fred possessed a unique gift to help people identify and set short- and long- term goals to live their best lives as he did his own. He loved to give advice; and once he gave it, he expected it to be followed! Beware to those who didn’t listen because he was nearly always right!
He loved golf and dancing…and Bloody Mary’s. His smile warmed your heart and his compassion for others was unmatched.
He was predeceased by his sister, Grace Arrington Rodriguez and his brother, Thomas Arrington. He is survived by his wife Charlene; sons Fredrick, Jr. and Justin; daughters-in-law, Tiffanie and Kristy; and grandchildren, Freddie, Farrah, June, Rafe and Clay. His sister Dorene and multiple cousins, nephews and nieces also survive him.
A celebration of life will be held at Silo Falls, 19501 Georgia Avenue, Brookeville, MD on September 7 at 4 pm.
