We met Fred about 30 years ago when he was looking for mullet at Cape Henlopen. We were just learning how to cast a net and Fred must have felt sorry for us when he realized we didn't have a clue about how to cast a net.
So Fred being Fred gave us lessons on casting. Whenever we saw him casting for mullet he would be really kind and dump some of his mullet in our bucket. That was Fred - a good man.
Over the years we would see him in September and October at the point and we would just cast our nets and chat a while. We had many interesting conversations.
Fred was a good man - one of the nicest men we ever met - and we will surely miss him. We always looked forward to seeing him in our favorite mullet spots. Some day we will meet again and we hope they have mullet in heaven.
We will keep him in our prayers.
