Francis Paul Cavanaugh Jr.'s Obituary
Francis Paul Cavanaugh, Jr.
January 10, 1945 – October 17, 2025
Francis Paul “Frank” Cavanaugh, Jr., of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Frank was the first of five sons of Frank and Helen Virginia (Bradley) Cavanaugh. He was a graduate of La Salle University and a proud Army veteran. He served our country for 22 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1992. His bravery was exemplified by his training as a paratrooper and service in the 82nd Airborne Division. Frank’s service was distinguished by numerous commendations, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.
Following his retirement from the military, Frank launched a successful career as a business consultant. Although he worked hard, he always found time for one of his greatest passions—golf. His love of the game took him all around the United States and on numerous trips to enjoy the links courses of Ireland and Scotland.
Frank will be remembered as a deeply loyal and supportive husband, father, brother, and friend. He dedicated his life to taking care of the people he loved. His impish sense of humor and love of mischief will be greatly missed.
Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carleen Cavanaugh; daughters, Sarah Cavanaugh (Peter Morawski) and Tricia Cavanaugh (Steven LaMonte); grandson, Samuel LaMonte; brothers, Daniel, and Paul Cavanaugh (Mary Kay); and other cherished nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rev. Michael and Dennis Cavanaugh; sister-in-law, Catherine Cavanaugh; and nephews, Francis and Daniel Cavanaugh.
Per Frank’s wishes, no services will be held. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors at a future date.
