Elise M. Samans' Obituary
Elise M. Samans, age 92, of Lewes Beach, DE, passed away on Friday Oct. 1, 2010 at Cadbury at Lewes. Mrs. Samans began visiting Lewes in the 1940 's and became a permanent resident in 1975. She was born in Camden, New Jersey on Nov. 7, 1917, daughter of the late James William McCausland and Helen Weaver McCausland. In her early years she attended Grier School in Tyrone, PA for four years then worked for a short time for the DuPont Company, Chambers Works in New Jersey where she met and later married her husband Walter A. Samans who passed in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a son Walter A. Samans, Jr in 1967, a casualty of the Viet Nam War, and a sister Elizabeth Thomas in 1977.
She was a devoted member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, Lewes, DE where she had been very involved with many of the church activities and women’s committees. She was a member of the Lewes Historical Society and was an avid golfer playing up until her 80’s.
She is survived by two sons, James Samans and wife Charlotte of Lewes, DE and William Samans and wife Cheryl of Kensington, New Hampshire, her sister Frances Walls of Lewes, DE and numerous grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM at St. Peters Episcopal Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes, DE. There will be no calling hours.
