Eleanor L. Madigan's Obituary
Eleanor L. (Honor) Madigan, 95, of Lewes, DE, died Saturday, October 6, at her residence. Born in Elmira, NY, August 26, 1917, she was the sixth child in a family of nine children. A daughter of John J. and Catherine Nagle Madigan, she is survived by her sister, Elizabeth C. Carey, Lewisburg, PA, and her long-time friend and caregiver, Nelrna B. Keen, along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret D. Post, Genevieve C. Madigan, Sister Marie Martin, SSJ; and brothers, Harold, Joseph, James and Thomas Madigan.
Eleanor was a career Federal employee, first with the Census Bureau and then with the Public Health Service. A member of the initial staff of the National Health Survey, for many years she directed the staff of computer systems analysts and programmers in processing United States vital and health statistics data. Eleanor retired in 1974 from the National Center for Health Statistics after 35 years of service.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 814 St. Louis Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837. The celebrant will be Rev. Msgr. William Richardson.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester, 150 French Road, Rochester, NY 14618.
