Dr. Lucia Gomez, M.D.'s Obituary
Lucia Gomez, M.D. of McLean, VA passed away at her home in Rehoboth Beach, DE on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.
Dr. Gomez, a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, was a Board Certified Internist and a fellow, American College of Cardiology and American College of Angiology. She graduated with honors from Emory University School of Medicine then completed internship and residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia and Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Gomez served on the teaching faculty at Georgetown and directed emergency rooms at D.C. General Hospital and Providence Hospital in Washington D.C. before establishing a private practice in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in NE Washington, D.C.
After retiring from private practice, she was requested to establish and operate a medical clinic at Lorton's Maximum Security Prison. Dr. Gomez also was a volunteer Cardiologist at the Spanish Catholic Center.
She is survived by her sister, Bertha Anderson, nieces, nephews and their families, along with many long-time friends, all of whom will miss her witticisms, generosity and loving, caring personality.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4835 MacArthur Blvd NW, Washington, D.C. 20007, with internment following at Carmel of Port Tobacco in La Plata, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Evangeline Papageorge-Lucia Gomez, M.D. Medical Scholarship Fund, c/o Emory University, 1440 Clifton Road, Ste. 170, Atlanta, GA 30322.
