Donald Rodney Evans' Obituary
Donald Rodney Evans, Jr., age 90 of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013 Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was the son of the late Donald and Elsie ( Aschoff) Evans, Sr.
Mr. Evans enjoyed a lifelong career as a Dispatcher with the Delaware Pilots Association retiring at the age of 64. He was an accomplished sailor and a member of the International Mobjack Association. In August of 1979 he achieved notoriety as the only Lewes sailor to take National Champion status, winning the International Mobjack Sailing Association Regatta. He was a sailing enthusiast who took every opportunity to sail, whether competitively or just for fun.
Mr. Evans was a member of the Lewes Yacht Club for many years and past Commodore in 1950. He was also a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and Shawnee Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Ann Evans; son Donald Rodney Evans, III in 2006 and three brothers: John Rodney Evans, William Wallace Evans and Douglas Jay Evans. He is survived by his daughter Valerie E. Caniglia and husband Joseph of Norristown, PA; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and two brothers: Robert B. Evans and wife Pauletta of Lewes, DE and Duval H. Evans and wife Annie of Bonita Springs, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 2nd and Market Streets, Lewes, DE 19958.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Evans' honor may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriot Way, Milford, DE 19963.
