Diane Therese Burke (née Emerson), 72, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home and was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on June 24, 2025. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, K Read Obituary
Diane was a bright shining light. We met at Solid Ground. I loved worshiping with her as she sang with our worship team. Her love of Jesus and her joy singing made it so that you wanted to sing and worship with her.
I miss you, Diane.
You always inspired me to be a better man, father, husband.

I only had the honor of meeting her once but that one time was a wonderful memory. She was full of joy and you couldn't help but smile around her. She made me feel immediately welcome and like I had known her all my life. She started a dancing train at the gala we went to with the family! It was an inspiration! I will never forget that moment or her and how she made me feel. She will always be remembered in my mind and someone just full of joy and bravery and kindness!

My first encounter with Diane was when I was new to the area and had just started attending the Tuesday Bible Study. As Cindy tried to corral everyone to get started, Diane was the last to stop chatting and gigging with her friends. I loved it! She was often at the front door on Sunday mornings greeting everyone with her infectious smile. I honestly always felt a little more lifted up around her because of her joy and humor.

After 6 decades since our years at Notre Dame during which our contact has been almost totally electronic, we were so grateful to have been able to spend some quality time with Diane and you at your home last summer, and, as expressed in her obituary, Diane’s “quick wit, radiant smile, and generous spirit” did indeed leave a lasting impression on both of us.
We were so much looking forward to deepening our ties either back in Lewes or in Canada, but those connections will now be treasured memories of a most lovely and gentle lady.

In 1983 I met you while you were walking by my house. We were both 8 1/2 months pregnant. Your first baby, and my third. You told me I was nuts. 2 weeks later we were in point pleasant hospital together. We forged a friendship that would last a lifetime. In 2013 I moved to Lewes just a couple of miles from you again. This time we let Kevin and Frank into our fold and picked up right where we left off. Our kids got married and our babies had babies. My favorite memory may be our Cabo trip. Our flight was cancelled in Houston due to snow in Phili. We found only one hotel room for 4 of us. We laughed so hard we cried. You had the greatest sense of humor. You always saw the good in everyone. I know you are at peace my friend, just please remember how much I love a sign.

My dearest Diane,
As I walk the beach in Rehoboth this morning as we have walked so many times before, I can only think about you and the many conversations we shared over so many years together. I will find a way forward and continue to walk this beach knowing that somehow, someway your are still walking with me. I will miss you very much Diane and you will remain in my heart forever.
