Deena Lynn Harmon's Obituary
Deena Lynn Harmon (née Heulitt), 51, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully after a two-year battle with brain cancer, surrounded by her family who loved her deeply.
Born in New Jersey, Deena spent her early years in Monroe Township, where she grew up in a close-knit family that loved camping and time outdoors. Those campgrounds would later become the setting for one of the most defining parts of her life: meeting Jerry Harmon. The Heulitts welcomed Jerry into their family as a teenager, and before long, Deena and Jerry became inseparable. They went on to build a life together that spanned decades and were full of shared adventures, music performances, and unwavering love.
Deena devoted her career to nonprofit work, primarily through the United Way, where she managed finances for local chapters with sharp intellect and strategic insight. Her colleagues knew her as someone who held herself and others to high standards, which was a reflection of both her intelligence and her deep sense of responsibility. She also volunteered her time with the Jackson Memorial High School Marching Band where she served as Treasurer for the Jackson Memorial Band Parents Association or JMBP for several years. Deena was not a musician, but her work allowed so many students to realize their dreams of being one.
Her greatest pride and joy were her children, Nicole and Alex. Nothing brought her more happiness than watching them thrive, whether performing in marching bands, excelling in their studies, or simply growing into thoughtful young adults. Nicole’s graduation from Drexel University and Alex’s pursuit of degrees from Temple University were among the moments she cherished most.
Deena faced her illness with quiet courage. The last two years were not easy, but through every challenge, she was surrounded by steadfast love: her husband of 29 years, Jerry; her devoted children, Nicole and Alex (and longtime girlfriend, Alyssa); her mother, Cynthia Heulitt; her brother, David Heulitt, and his husband, Phil; and extended family and friends who cared for her deeply, including her devoted little dog, Bitsie. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Heulitt.
Deena’s story is one of intellect, devotion, and enduring love. She was deeply connected to her family and proud of the life she built with them.
