Sad to learn that Deano is gone. We were freshmen on the same floor at Keene State. Deano saved me from a bad roommate freshman year. As anyone that knew him, he was interesting, confident and going the way he felt he should, even if it was not the easiest path. I'll never forget him and wish my sympathies to his family and friends.

We are all still in shock of the passing of Dean. He was like our second son when he and Val were kids. My memories of Dean are so vivid...It's like it was yesterday. Never a dull moment with Deano around. My absolute favorite entertainment from Dean was when he would wrestle himself. We loved him like a son. He will truly be missed by so many but the heavens have gained an amazing human being.

Dean you made a impact in my life as one of my best friends. When we met on the baseball field rounding the bases our voyage started. The voyage took us through middle then eventually high school and beyond. Growing up skiing, tubing down the creek and playing every sport you can think of you were the perfect teammate. When I was down you picked me up and always answered the phone and listened. I can't put into words my sadness but I am a better person for the inspiration you bestowed upon me. I had Dr. Schofield my freshman year of college, in his first year at WCU. I am now a senior, and even after taking so many other classes, I vividly remember his. I remember him coming in flip flops, and bringing his dog to class. It was such a joy to come to class and I recommended it to many other students who took him in future semesters. I am about to graduate in May, and am planning on pursuing a certification in Autism Education in my graduate course work. Dr. Schofield is definitely a part of this. He was a great man who touched the lives of so many people and will be greatly missed.
I am extremely fortunate to have Dean as a friend and borrowed brother. His kind and happy spirit will be greatly missed. Those who know his wonderful daughter Lauren can see what an exceptional and loving father he was. He adored Lauren and treasured every moment spent with her. He was a joy to be near and laughter always filled the air whenever he was present. His departed father Tim, his brother David, and his wonderful mother Pat have always welcomed me and my wife in as part of their family. My wish is that everyone will meet a person as wonderful as Dean in their lifetime, and treasure them as much as we did. You will always be with us.

Dean was a doc student at the Curry School of Education at Uva. He was a very personable and polite guy. He loved his daughter and brought her to the office on many occasions. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. RIP Dean, you had a lot going for you. So sorry to hear this news, God bless you and your family and friends.
Dean was one of my favorite professors at Appalachian State. He always seemed to know what the individuals in the class needed and would adjust his teaching accordingly. His class was never high pressure or full of busy work, but very informative. I learned so much from him and I know my classmates and I will never forget him. He was admired, respected, and appreciated. Condolences to his family in this difficult time- I am so sorry for your loss.
Dean was one of my professors at App State. His classes were unlike any others I took at Appalachian; I can honestly say I had fun in his classroom. I remember how hard he was working on his doctorate while I had him as a professor. It is so good to see that he finished the coursework. Thank for you all your lessons, Dr. Dean.
