David Truman Smith's Obituary
David Truman Smith, age 80 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes. He was born Thursday, July 22, 1937 in Providence, RI, son of the late William and Elizabeth (Simmons) Smith.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence, RI, Providence College, and University of Connecticut Law School. Upon earning his doctorate, Mr. Smith began a lifelong career as an attorney. His interests were many and varied, and included reading, gardening, and telling bad jokes. He found great joy in cooking for those he loved and being an advocate for justice. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he held dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his siblings: Jonathan Smith, Nancy Smith, and Marcia Mustard; and his grandson, Kieron Clewett. He is survived by his beloved wife, Charlene (Hustead) Smith of Lewes, DE; his children: Gabrielle, Marisol, Jonathan, Miriam, and Jeremiah Smith; his grandchildren: Noah Smith, Laura Smith, Kerri Smith, Evelyn Eastwood, Owen Eastwood, Arthur Eastwood, Ursula Eastwood, and Amelia Clewett; and his siblings: Lorna Knost, Quentin Smith, and Thomas Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Unitarian Universalist Society of Millcreek, 579 Polly Drummond Hill Road; Newark, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Smith's memory to Southern Poverty Law Center: 400 Washington Avenue; Montgomery, AL 36104.
