David Truman Smith, age 80 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes. He was born Thursday, July 22, 1937 in Providence, RI, son of the late William and Elizabeth (Simmons) Smith. Mr. Sm Read Obituary
David grew up in Providence, RI and his whole family was very active at Beneficent Congregational Church. We remember David fondly as he was in the same Sunday school class with Walter. We offer our sincere sympathies to his family and friends. Walter & Irene Hope
David and I grew up in the same Providence neighborhood. When I moved, we attended different high schools and lost contact after that. I do however have memories of bike rides, hikes, Cub Scouts, listening to his "bad" jokes while walking to Boy Scout meetings, sharing a tent on scout camping trips (he made a better beef stew than most scouts), being rescued from the cave, climbing the cherry tree in his yard, and boxing in a friend's basement.

David was a kind, gentle man. Our memories of David go back over the past 30 years as a customer of Herman's Meat Shoppe. He and Charlene would come in every Saturday and shop. David had nothing but kind words for everyone he met and we looked forward to seeing him each week. He always spoke of his family with pride. Saturday's will not be the same. As Marcia's husband, I know first hand how close she and David were. Now, they are together again. She told me of the times when, as children, she & David were playing together, and David would carefully construct an edifice of blocks, and Marcia would promptly knock them over. She was given the title of 'Blitzkrieg' as a result. For myself, and for her, I send our condolences and best wishes to the Smith family. God Bless & God Speed.
